This collaborative project shows Cooke's footage of the Naracoorte Caves in South Australia juxtaposed against time-lapse video of Landsat satellite images of Antarctic ice shelves and acoustically framed by McKinnon's electronic score. In responding to the theme of natural science, the project pits the ‘deep time’ of ancient geological formations against the technologically amplified time of the present. The title of this project is derived from Walter Benjamin's ‘angel of history’, a tragic figure and forced witness to the catastrophe of history.
