Still forest is about a memory of spiritual connectedness to a unique Australian environment, and creates a sensory environment which facilitates an experience of form and space, evoked through a Japanese ceramics discipline and contemporary installation practice. The repetitive vertical forms, reminiscent of spotted gums, aim to bring the viewer to a place of silence where the mind becomes still and other senses are awakened.
In this context, connection to place is bound up in memory, association and myth. Belonging – connected to memory of place and the natural environment – is what I am endeavoring to express through this ceramic work.
