Rejuvenation represents the regrowth period of the bush after destructive bushfires have been through, both terrible in their ferocity to land, flora and fauna and yet necessary for much of our flora to regrow. It’s a work of hope, symbolised in the fresh yellow-green of the new growth, yet a reminder of how climate change is affecting fire frequency through the deep black of the charred trunks. This work was painted en plein air in the Blue Mountains representing an emotional response to that place as well as abstracting the literal representation through non-literal colour, mark-making and form simplification.
