Organ pipes looks at our connections to the land. I took inspiration from Mount Arapiles which was originally inhabited by the Djurid Balud Aboriginal clan and is now Victoria’s rock climbers’ Mecca. I attempted to depict this familiar area the way I experience it: intimidating and sometimes dangerous, it is also an inspiring and spiritual place.
My work is based on the belief that landscapes are not only something external to us, that we can model according to our own wish. Instead, landscapes influence us as human beings. More than a ‘thing’ outside our home, landscapes live within us.
