Beach plastic, fishing line on acrylic paint and medium
600 x 900 mm
While studying coastal outcrops and beach walking over the years, it’s been disturbing to see hard plastic marine pollution increasing on SA beaches. I’m not anti-plastic but I am anti-litter and pollution. I collected plastic on remote beaches, sorted it by colour and set it on a ground of acrylic with a tangle of fishing line.
The title, “It was once thought oceans were so vast they could not be affected by humans”, comes from a CSIRO paper - Duckett & Repaci, 2014. Marine plastic pollution: using community science to address a global problem, Marine and freshwater research 66(8), p 665-673.
