Endemic Spoons 1–5 are inspired by Tasmanian endemic flora. They are functional yet ornate – beginning with a simple spoon form, the handles erupt with an abundance of new spring foliage, bud growth, winter lichen, sparse and discoloured leaves of autumn and seeds. My work evolves from a love of the Tasmanian wilderness and our endemic flora reflecting on my personal connection to the native bushland – it is the result of a process of bush wanderings, specimen collecting, sketching and detailed manufacturing. The finished pieces aim to capture the fine details and textures within each species, re-imagined in precious metal.
