A blizzard's calm

Acrylic on canvas

1000 mm x 1500 mm

An icy blizzard blocked out the sound that surrounded our vessel as we crossed over the Bransfield Strait towards the Antarctic Peninsula. My vision, sharpened in the foreground, could see under the Antarctic waters. In the middleground snow and ice combined to become ‘grease ice’, slick across the dark ocean. There was no distance, no perspective, just white silence and calm.
