Wattle seed dreaming

Acrylic on canvas

My painting Wattle seed dreaming relates to my grandmother who would take us camping as children and cook wattle seed damper in the campfire. The leaves that are not painted in represent her spirit.

She taught us to only take what we needed from the land, to protect the environment and about the uses of the seeds, such as a food source high in nutrition. The leaves are used in smoking ceremonies.

Today I still make her wattle seed damper. The wattle commonly used is the mulga (Acacia aneura).
