Lichen world - golden moonglow

Pencil on paper, digital colour

Golden moonglow is a small round lichen that grows on rocks, boulders and any hard surface. Its distribution is worldwide and it is a very common lichen. This image is about studying the fine detail of the lichen; how it spreads across the rock and the soft colours of yellows and greens.

It is drawn on its own ball of rock – its own world.

Lichen are a tiny part of our natural surroundings yet they are everywhere, often unnoticed. It is only when you get up close to their world that you can see their complexity and beauty.
