Diamond ring

Hot sculpted glass, radiated diamond nanoparticles, 532 nm laser, 532 nm laser filter

In consultation with scientists from the Centre for Nanoscale Biophotonics, this series incorporates radiated diamond nanoparticles into molten glass for the first time. The curved form of the glass channels the light to activate the diamond's curious luminous properties under a specific wavelength of green laser. Inert in ordinary light and overpowered by the green, the true red glow of the fluorescing diamonds is revealed at last behind a special screen.

Deep symbolism emerged for the artist throughout last year's marriage plebiscite; with the Diamond ring, the invisible becomes visible. The personal becomes political. Equality is illuminated.
