Porcelain and plexiglass
This artwork continues my study into the use of clay and other materials to explore liminal spaces and moments of transformation, inspired by research on decay and regrowth. I am interested in nature’s ability to create new life from the decay, and I use the materiality of porcelain to simultaneously express qualities of strength and fragility, permanence and impermanence. This gives the artwork the sense of liminality through growth and transformation. Referencing specimen samples and museum displays, the work references a moment of movement – of temporal transcendence – encapsulating past, present and potential future forms of the natural world.
