Adaptations

Porcelain

The inspiration for my work comes from nature’s ability to adapt and the evolutionary possibilities of the future plant-world driven by natural selection. My porcelain compositions explore plant adaptations existing today and how they may evolve further to cope with the stressors of climate change, such as increased heat, drought, changes in soil fertility and changing interactions with pollinators. The sculptures’ white nature represents how these organisms exist only in the imagination, whilst also serving as a metaphor for the invisible and almost magical processes that enable our natural world to effectively adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
