My sculpture Relatives is a play on language, science and art which I believe are all relative. My relationship with jellyfish started as boy growing up on the banks of the Swan River in Perth. It’s been a difficult relationship after all jellyfish don’t have eyes, or a brain, they don’t say much and jellyfish have a really short attention span. They are however incredibly beautiful in a mathematical kind of way. When I look at jellyfish I see lines and curves and fascinating shapes, assembled together as one jellyfish or in a group numbering thousands, they are a hypnotic and wondrous display of living geometry. Relatives is a whimsical sculpture that highlights this geometry.
