Nganurti Nyinarra Manngungka (Bush Turkey On The Nest)

Sculpture & Objects

Finalist

Tjanpi (wild harvested grasses), raffia, acrylic yarn, emu feathers and bush turkey feathers, 60cm x 45cm x 97cm

Nganurti is excellent bush kuka (meat). On the weekends all the families like to go out and hunt for the Nganurti, we look for them in the tjanpi (grass) country after it’s been burnt.
First we pluck the feathers, then we cook the turkey straight in the coals, this is a good feed. There is still plenty of Nganurti around.
