Scientists are predicting mass extinctions for many Australian native species. Extinct Australian bird specimens, particularly species lost since European settlement, are seen only in scientific archives of global natural history museums. This painting recreates my encounter with the Kangaroo Island Emu articulated skeleton held at Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle, Paris.
