Acrylic and oil on linen, 137cm x 91cm

The friarbird and various plants depicted in this painting are quotations from Ferdinand Bauer's illustrations made during his voyage with Matthew Flinders. Their transformation into ornamental forms reflects my imagining of the wonder and delight experienced by many colonialists as they encountered and exoticised the flora and fauna of Australia.
